Supermax: Glove sector to remain strong

The Malaysian glove industry is expected to remain strong with global demand and consumption estimated to grow between
eight and 12 per cent per annum, said an industry player.

Supermax Corp Bhd executive chairman/group managing director, Datuk Seri Stanley Thai, said glove consumption was not expected to be affected by the crises in Europe and the US.

"The prices are expected to remain volatile and over-speculated eventhough the market is not expecting a shortage of natural rubber latex supply.

"Natural rubber latex prices are expected to retreat to an average of between RM5.50 and RM6.50 per kg this year," he told reporters after a briefing for analysts, fund managers and investors here today.

Thai said the nitrile gloves were expected to experience price war from the second half onwards.

"However, the margin is expected to be maintained at competitive level of between 11-15 per cent this year," he said.

Overall, he said, the glove industry would remain resilient and sustainable this year.
